Leg One – 12 Days
Sometimes sailing is purely about relaxing and exploring with the focus on wining, dining and a little sailing between destinations. This trip however focuses more on sailing and adventure and is generally suited to those who have sailed previously. You will be expected to be an active participant in all areas of sailing and keeping the vessel in good condition, as well as cooking and cleaning. Of course once when we finish sailing each day, we will revert to our modus operandi of focusing on wining and dining. Starting from Gran Canaria, we’ll sail around the magnificent Canary Islands to Morocco. We’ll explore a number of amazing cities along the Moroccan coast before sailing up through the Strait of Gibraltar to the Rock.

Itinerary
Arrive into Gran Canaria meet your skipper, who will undertake a myriad of safety checks for the boat and brief the crew about protocols including Man Over Board and night sailing. Nothing is left to chance and having an RYA instructor means we can delve into aspects of safety and sailing as taught by RYA approved sailing schools.
We set sail early in the morning on the Saturday from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria and head north passing the volcanic island of Fuerteventura. This area of the Atlantic is famous for dolphins and other marina life so keep your eyes peeled. Starting as we mean to go on, the first day includes an overnight sail to get us into the newest Canary island La Graciosa, North Lanzarote early morning on Sunday. Enjoy exploring the empty beaches of the island that was said to have inspired Treasure Island, before we bed down for the night.
In true pirate style, we leave this beautiful island just after sunrise, before traversing East across the Atlantic. This adventure is not for the faint hearted, so hold on tight fellow sailors as we set sail for 2 days in the open ocean. For those who like their adventures BIG, this will be the highlight of the trip. You will learn all aspects of offshore sailing including night shifts, navigation and general survival at sea. Your skipper will reinforce protocols around sailing keeping safe throughout the journey before setting off. Following the most challenging and rewarding sail we’ll arrive into Agadir before sunset. There is nothing that beats the exoticness of arriving in to Morocco by boat!
A well earned rest in the costal town of Agadir will be in order. You can spend this non-sailing day soaking up the Moroccan sights, senses and smells of Agadir. Sit and watch the surfers battle the waves, visit the historical Kasbah, shop local products in the souks, sample the local delicacies, tagines, pastries and sip on Moroccan mint tea. If you’re still up for even more activities then how does a camel ride sound?
We’ll have breakfast in port and then depart mid-morning, following the North African coastline up towards Casablanca. We have another overnight sail before we arrive into the iconic Casablanca. This mythical place that exists in a dream inspired by the 1942 film starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart.
Casablanca is a hotbed of fascinating architecture. Architecture buffs will geek out on the city’s diverse building styles, from Art Deco to radically modern. We’ll take in the vibrant colours, smell the spices, marvel at the architecture during a non-sailing day in this lively city – not to mention getting our shopping fix in the city’s many souks.
For the final stint of Leg One our final overnight sail sees us setting off from Casablanca and sailing north along the Moroccan coast. It’s an active area for fishing vessels and known for its abundance of sea life. Another night at sea and dawn on the morning of Day 11 will see us arrive at the Straits of Gibraltar and will cross over the European side passing the windiest city in the world (Tarifa). A half day sail along the straits of Gibraltar before proudly arriving in the Rock.
Sailing almost 1000nm across the Atlantic Ocean in no mean feat, so landing in Gibraltar and the Med is reason for a celebration.
After an epic 12 days at sea a non-sailing day in Gibraltar is well and truly deserved! If your legs will carry you, no trip to Gibraltar is complete without a walk up the rock – look out from the top and back at the epic trip we’ll have just completed. If that doesn’t make you feel on top of the world, we don’t know what will!

There are so many cultural places to visit and sights to see, so we recommend arriving early! That evening we’ll kick off this trip with a bang as we join up with the sailors from leg one.
We set sail in the morning from Gibraltar and follow the South Andalusian coastline eastwards towards the popular town of Malaga. Often underrated, Malaga has something for everything, the museum of Picasso, castles, shops and perhaps what it’s best known for, it’s beautiful sandy beaches!
Following this scenic route, we leave the lively Malaga for the lush green town of Montril. Taking in the crystal clear water, passing hidden coves and charming fishing villages as we go. Framed with a backdrop of majestic mountains, Montril is simply majestic.
Next stop is the historical town of Almeria, this lesser known Spanish town has some magnificent sights to see including the Alcazaba of Almeria – a 10th century fortress, the 15th century Cathedral, not to mention the restaurants ready to ply you with tapas and sangria galore.
This coastline never gets old! Soak up the peace and calm of the South Coast on our last day of sailing leg two. Marvel at the beauty of the Atlantic estuaries, stunning seaside towns, impressive coastal cliffs and we might even pass a few coastal castillos. Arriving into the city of Cartagena late afternoon, we’ll see out our last evening on Leg 2 in style.
Our last and final stop on this leg is Cartagena, the home of the Spanish Navy. Seated on the South Easterly tip of Spain, you’ll feel you’ve stepped back in time as the city has just so much history. The Roman Theatre is beyond impressive, there are castles, museums, palaces galore to explore and we haven’t even touched on the places to eat!
LEG Three – Spain and Balearic Islands
For this five day trip we start by travelling up the southern easterly corner of Spain for the first two days. Then we head East to spend the next three days sailing in and around the idyllic islands of Formentera, Ibiza and Mallorca where we end this awesome adventure.

For this trip we start by traveling up the southern easterly corner of Spain leaving Cartagena behind for Alicante. The capital of Spain’s Costa Blanca, as the name suggests, this region is brimming with endless white sandy beaches. Filled with classic Spanish colonial architecture, Alicante offers the perfect balance of old and new, from exploring the cobbled streets of the old town to sipping Pina Coladas in coolest beach bars on the sea front.
We’ll enjoy a day sailing up the eastern side of Spain to the oldest fishing town on the Costa Blanca. Moraira is a picturesque town with a stunning coastline, a mixture of sandy beaches and rocky outcrops. The area is also home to 1,000 hectares of vineyards.
We leave this quaint town for the open sea as we cross the Mediterranean for the Balearic island of Formentera. The smallest of this group of islands and often overlooked, a hidden gem of the med. It has become favourite for many for its chilled out hippy vibes.
Ibiza, perhaps the most iconic of all the islands in the med! We’re swapping out the chilled vibes of Formentera for the ultimate party island! Celebrating our penultimate night on this epic trip, we’ll feast on Ibiza’s delicious delicacies before hitting the town.
There’s nothing like a little sea air to awaken the senses as sail the magnificent med to our final stop of the trip. Take in the aquamarine waters, the incredible variety of landscapes, the beauty of the secret bays as we sail into Mallorca for our final stop.
Palma is a charming city, walk through the winding cobbled streets, take in the views from the Cathedral over the rooftops of the old town. There are some of the best beach bars in the med just a stones throw from Palma. So soak up the Spanish culture, cuisine and lifestyle before heading back home.
